Background: Hails from a lower middle class family. Father was making a living, by putting up a tea stall. As income was not sufficient to meet the family needs, he wanted to do self-employment. From childhood, he was interested in Arts and Handicrafts. Started work on thermo coal sheet. As thermo coal work is a common trade, he wanted to do handicraft work on coconut husk in addition. Learnt the basic knowledge from the neighbour for few years. At this juncture, he applied under PMEGP, got selected and sent to RUDSETI, Berhampore for training. The sessions on behavioural aspects, marketing, communication skills and business plan preparation boosted the knowledge and confidence. Now, he is now running Karmakar Craft Centre profitably. Received awards from both District Administration and State Government for his innovative work.
